Obituary for Dorothy Ethel Blaine

Dorothy Ethel Blaine
Dorothy E. Blaine (nee van Hussen)
April 17, 1924 (Winnipeg) – January 4, 2016 (West Vancouver)
Dorothy passed away peacefully in Lions Gate Hospital at the grand age of 91. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by son Steve (Elena Polyachek), daughters Teresa (Dean Stubbs) and Cynthia, niece Debbie (John Bolton), 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband (Bud) and sister (Ellen Mitchell).
Dorothy was born and spent her early childhood in Winnipeg. In 1936 her family made their way west to Vancouver to start a new life. It was here, in high school, that she met her husband-to-be, Bud. She anxiously awaited his return from WWII and they were married in 1946. Dorothy was a very talented seamstress which she applied to her work at both Sweet Sixteen and Jones Tent and Awning along with creating hand-made clothes, knit sweaters, and even cross stitch pictures for her family. Upon the adoption of their 3 children, Dorothy devoted her life to husband, family and home as the consummate homemaker. She had a passion for cooking, enjoying the creation of feasts for the extended family (20+) on special occasions. Other passions included church, bridge and gardening along with teaching the neighbourhood kids to swim without ever learning herself.
We would like to thank Dr. John Lebrun and the nurses/staff of Lions Gate Hospital 4 East for the loving and compassionate care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, 599 Keith Rd, West Vancouver on Friday, January 15th at 11am, Father Paul Goo officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s memory may be sent to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation (https://www.bcchf.ca/donate/).
We will love you always and miss you forever….
