Obituary for Maurice Edwin Thomas Skiffington

Skiffington, Maurice Edwin Thomas (Mo), 89, died peacefully on Sept 20th at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver having said goodbye to many family and friends. Born June 5th, 1928 in Hamilton, New Zealand he spent his youth chasing around Waihi Beach. One of 9 children of Thomas Skiffington and Ella Barnes. He is survived by sons Sean (Rebecca), Terry, Alan (Ruth), daughter Ngaire (Brian Roberts), and eight grandchildren (Jacqueline, Rosalyn, Dylan, Madeline, Erin, Thomas, Sierra and Tylo. Having travelled the world he met his wife Betty Murnaghan in Vancouver and they were married in 1960. They spent three years in New Zealand, returning to Vancouver in 1965. In 1972 the family moved to Victoria where Mo owned and operated a flooring contracting company, a job he loved until reluctantly retiring in 1995. After the death of his wife Betty in 2003, a number of years later he moved back to New Zealand and married Nancy Hammond. With the passing of Nance in 2014, Mo returned to North Vancouver where he spent many happy hours playing cards and solving the worlds' problems with his many friends at Bean Around the World, Parkgate Community Centre and the Mens Cub at JBCC. He lived life with no regrets and an unwavering positive attitude and leaves behind a legacy of humour, positive energy, fairness and fond memories for all who knew him.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Sept 28th at 11:00 at St. Stephen's Church in N. Vancouver. A reception will take place immediately following at St. Stephen's. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr.'s Shaw and Lakha and the Angels of the Palliative Care Unit at LGH for their incredible compassion and expertise. We are also truly grateful for the prayers and support offered by so many special friends and family. If so desired, donations may be made to Parkgate or John Braithwaite Community Centres.

To honour Mo, remember one of his favorite sayings, "Treat the world with a smile and the world will smile back at you."
