Obituary for Kenneth Deck

Deck, Kenneth (Robert) July 23, 1951 - September 18, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce Ken’s passing at 65 after a relatively short but fierce fight against cancer.

Ken will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 33 years Britt; his daughters Kalista (Dan) and Barb (Troy); his grandsons Josh, Athan, Samson and Sebastian; and his brothers Rick (Mary), Tim (Sue), Jack (Louise), Kevin (Barb); and many nieces and nephews as well as good friends. He is predeceased by his father Frank Deck; mother Joyce Bewley; brother Frankie Deck; and son Jeffrey Thomson.

Raised in Red Deer, Alberta, Ken lived most of his adult life in British Columbia, lastly in North Vancouver. Ken worked for many years as a heavy duty parts person and most recently as a school bus driver, which maybe suited him best as he loved kids. “Hockey Grandpa” was the biggest cheerleader at his grandsons’ games - he never missed a single one! We will miss his bellowing voice (“Get on that puck!”), fondness for coffee, crazy-good socks and “bad driver” stories but especially the love that beamed from his face whenever he was with his family.

A Memorial Service in memory of Ken will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at 3:00pm at St. David's United Church, 1525 Taylor Way, West Vancovuer. A reception will follow at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial donations in memory of Ken to Lions Gate Hospital Foundation (www.lghfoundation.com).
